Writing

Writing in Year 5 covers a wide range of text types. Through different genres of writing, children will learn the key features of text types and how to make good use of a range of grammar skills to improve the effectiveness of their writing. 

Across the whole school The Power of Reading is used to teach a range of different writing genres and text types during English sessions. The Power of Reading utilises high quality texts, specifically chosen for each year group, and a range of exciting and immersive teaching techniques in order to both improve children’s enjoyment of and their ability in writing.

Children also use 'Visual Success Criteria' to help them with their writing. This is printed at the top of their writing and allows the children to see a list of the key feautres which they are expected to include in their writing. This also allows teachers to mark children's work by marking off the elements the child has acheived in their writing.
