School Council
At West Street Primary School, every class in KS2 Stage 2 have two School Council representatives. The School Councillors were all elected by the children in their class during our ‘Election Day Ballot’.
The School Council members meet every week to discuss the views and ideas of pupils at West Street. These discussions are then fed back to the rest of the school through class council discussions, assemblies, newsletters and the School Council notice board which is situated in Key Stage 2 hall.
We hold regular meetings to discuss ways in which we can improve our school. We love to help our community by litter picking or collecting for the local food bank. We also come up with ideas for raising money for charity and for the school and often act as the judging panel for school competitions.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 School Councillors are also members of Colne Junior Council which was founded in 2023. Colne Junior Council is made up of children from four local primary schools who meet regularly at Colne Town Hall to discuss ways in which we can help to improve our local area, especially for young people.
Colne Junior Council recently visited The Houses of Parliament to find out more about how the government works!
