In maths, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work. Using this scheme, children become familiar with a variety of methods of calculation, ways of representing numbers and are taught how to apply these skills to problem solving situations. Children are encouraged to combine the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations, written and mental methods of calculation. It is also important for children to understand that getting things wrong is actually a good thing as this allows us to learn from our mistakes and therefore improve our mathematical thinking. In Year 2 children will complete calculations with numbers up to 100. By the end of Year 2, children are expected to be able to count in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10, solve problems with addition and subtraction, recognise and write fractions and identify shapes.
