Maths
In maths, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work. Using this scheme, children become familiar with a variety of methods of calculation, ways of representing numbers and are taught how to apply these skills to problem solving situations. Children are encouraged to combine the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations, written and mental methods of calculation. It is also important for children to understand that getting things wrong is actually a good thing as this allows us to learn from our mistakes and therefore improve our mathematical thinking. In Year 4 children will complete calculations with numbers up to 100,000, negative numbers and numbers with up to 2 decimal places. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all the times tables up to 12 x 12 so they may need to some extra practice on them in order to meet this target. Therefore, any help or practice you help you can give your children will be of great benefit. This will be of great help when it comes to them taking the year 4 Multiplication Tables Check in the summer term. |
