Maths
In maths, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work. Using this scheme, children become familiar with a variety of methods of calculation, ways of representing numbers and are taught how to apply these skills to problem solving situations. Children are encouraged to combine the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations, written and mental methods of calculation.
It is also important for children to understand that getting things wrong is actually a good thing as this allows us to learn from our mistakes and therefore improve our mathematical thinking. In Year 1 are expected to read, write and order numbers up to 100. It is important that we develop a quick recall of number binds up to 10 as this lays important foundations for future learning. By practising counting forwards and backwards from any point up to 100. CHildren will learn how to count in 2's, 5's and 10's.
