Spring 2 - WC 20/2/2023

Well, what a busy first week back after February half term! 

At the start of the week the children were learning all about Pancake Day. We spoke about why we have pancakes and learnt that Shrove Tuesday is the day before the start of Lent. We then discussed our favourite things and what we would find hard to give up for 40 days! A lot of the children agreed chocolate and sweets would be hard!

On Tuesday we enjoyed some pancakes. The children all worked together as a group mixing the ingredients and some of them had a go at tossing the pancakes. They could chose sugar, lemon or golden syrup for their toppings, some had all 3!

On Wednesday the children had a go themselves at making the pancake batter using flour and milk (water with a splash of white paint) It got very messy!

Thursday, we introduced our new topic 'People who help us.' We examined a collection of objects associated with our topic at carpet time. The children then explained their own knowledge of these special jobs and we made a list of things we wanted to find out. The first important role we will be looking at is the fire services.

Today we have  changed our home corner into a fire station and painted a big red fire engine. We are looking forward to pretending to be fire officers next week.
