This week we have enjoyed the story of 'The Very Hungry Little Caterpillar.' The children are brilliant at retelling this story and are now familiar with the days of week and what order they are in.

We have been counting fruit and matching to the correct numeral. We have been learning to subitise to 5 and we have played dice games to help improve this skill, which is important for reception.

In the craft area we painted green and red plates to make a big caterpillar for our new display. We carefully used scissors to cut around the fruit and food items and practised writing numbers 1-5.

We have also used brown paint and paper to create cocoons.

The children then made butterflies. They enjoyed painting one side of the paper and folding it in half. They were amazed that their painting and been repeated on the other half when they opened up their paper.

In the maths area we have also been looking at simple repeating patterns. They were asked choose colours and see if they can recreate an AB pattern on the peg boards and on paper.
