Changes over time

Date: 30th Jun 2022 @ 4:35pm

Reception class have been learning about changes over time, the life cycle of plants (Dandelions), Frogs, Butterflies and Chicks. We have been enjoying lots of singing and different activities relating to the life cycle of Ducks, Frogs and Butterflies in the classroom and outdoors.

The children worked in pairs with a magnifying glass and observed the flowers. They then had a go at drawing them and labelled the different parts. The children showed great interest in Dandelions and found them in their different stages in the school grounds. We did a science experiment, dipping the dandelion clock into water, it acted as a little umbrella – some coming out dry.

EYFS have been observing and looking after baby caterpillars – friends of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. They grew into hungry caterpillars and then into big fat caterpillars, now they have gone for a big sleep in their sleeping bags – a cocoon, ready to turn into beautiful butterflies – we are very excited!

Children worked in groups to build homes/nests for the birds and their eggs, the children really thought about what materials they could use that would be suitable for their homes and find a sensible place to make their house away from danger. The children extended this into their own provision and made homes for bugs, snails and went looking for mini beasts. Some of the children even found a caterpillar asleep on a log.
